What are the key ingredients in Marine Omega?

• Each daily dose of Marine Omega provides 200 mg of krill oil, extracted exclusively from Euphausia superba, an Antarctic krill zooplankton where the long chain omega-3s, EPA and DHA, occur in a phospholipid form. The distinctive red colour of krill oil comes from astaxanthin. In addition, Marine Omega also contains the additive tocopherol-rich extract added as an antioxidant to prevent the oxidation of the fish oil and by this to maintain its long-term stability.

What are EPA and DHA?

• The main long chains of omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids in your diet are ALA (alpha-linoleic acid), EPA and DHA.  Fish is a uniquely rich source of long chain omega-3 fatty acids. Other natural sources are human milk, cultivated marine algae, marine mammals and krill. EPA and DHA may also be provided by foods and food supplements as a supplement to the normal diet.

• The long chain omega-3s EPA and DHA play an important role for heart health. DHA plays a role in the normal brain function. 

What is the difference between Omega-3 and Omega-6 fatty acids?

• Our way of eating and general intake of Omega-3 and Omega-6 fatty acids have changed over the last decades. While the intake of Omega-6 fatty acids has increased (due to greater intake of processed and fast food), Omega-3 fatty acids intake tends to be less. The primary sources of Omega-3 are fatty fishes: salmon, tuna, sardine, etc. It means that increasing our consumption of foods rich in Omega-3 would be beneficial to most diets.

What is the source of Omega-3 fatty acids in Marine Omega?

• Marine Omega provides good quality Omega-3 fatty acids from fish and krill oil. The fish oil is primary derived from anchovies and sardines. Krill oil is derived from Euphausia superba, which are small shrimp- or prawn-like crustaceans.
